Zocor (Simvastatin) is an hmg-coa reductase inhibitor (also known as statin) used to lower bad cholesterol and fat (triglyceride) levels in your blood and raise good cholesterol levels. This medicine is used in combination with low-fat diet. Adults and children of 10 years and above can use Simvastatin. Zocor works by blocking an enzyme that makes cholesterol in the body. When this enzyme is blocked, your body makes less cholesterol. Low cholesterol level also prevents you from heart problems and stroke. This medicine is not a cure for high cholesterol, but may help to control it.
