VOLTAROL is the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug used to pain and inflammation caused by osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, and ankylosing spondylitis. VOLTAROL is also used to relieve the menstrual pain, ocular inflammation, ankylosing spondylitis, and actinic keratosis. VOLTAROL contains Diclofenac as the active constituent that is responsible for relieving pain, swelling, stiffness, or inflammation.

What is VOLTAROL?
- VOLTAROL is the anti-inflammatory analgesic drug belonging to class of medicines called as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
- VOLTAROL contains Diclofenac as the active constituent that blocks the action of enzymes cyclo-oxygenase I (COX-I) and cyclo-oxygenase (COX-2) that promotes the production of prostaglandins that are responsible for the pain, swelling, and inflammation.
- VOLTAROL also suppresses the production of pro-inflammatory hormones that are responsible for the causing inflammation and swelling.
- VOLTAROL increases the blood flow to the affected area and thus reduces the pain and stiffness.
How VOLTAROL is beneficial?
- VOLTAROL is used for the treatment of the pain, inflammation, swelling, and stiffness caused by the arthritis and akolysing spodylitis.

What is the dosage of VOLTAROL?
- Depending on the diseases and the intensity of pain, prescribed dosage of VOLTAROL is given.
- In osteoarthritis prescribed dosage of VOLTAROL is 100-150 mg/day in divided doses. You can take entire dosage of 150 mg of VOLTAROL at once or can be distributed in 3 doses of 50 mg or 2 doses of 75 mg.
- VOLTAROL prescribed dosage in Rheumatoid Arthritis is 150 to 200 mg twice or thrice in a day. Don’t increase the dosage of VOLTAROL to more than 600 mg in a day because it can cause severe complications to your health. Please discuss with the doctor, if you want to increase the VOLTAROL dosage.
- VOLTAROL prescribed dosage is 100 to 125 mg once in a day for the patients suffering from ankylosing spondylitis. The dosage of 25 mg can be taken extra at the bedtime to see the maximum benefits.
- Prescribed dosage of VOLTAROL is 300 mg twice in a day for the individuals having primary Dysmenorrhea, menstrual pain, or severe acute Pain. Dosage of VOLTAROL can be increased up to 600 mg in cases of severe acute pain.
- VOLTAROL should not be taken on an empty stomach.
- Dosage of VOLTAROL is always recommended with food, milk or an antacid.
- Physician is the best person who can guide you regarding how and when you should take the dosage of VOLTAROL.
- Swallow the VOLTAROL tablet whole with full glass of water, don’t break, chew or powder it.
- Two dosages of VOLTAROL must have the mandatory break of 8 hours in between because VOLTAROL requires the duration of 8 hours to completely wash out of the body.
- Don’t lie down soon after taking the dosage of VOLTAROL because it will prevent the irritation in the upper part of the stomach.
If I overdose VOLTAROL?
- Please consult the doctor immediately or seek emergency medical attention if you have taken VOLTAROL in excess.
- VOLTAROL overdose symptoms include lethargy, vomiting, weakness, drowsiness, nausea, gastrointestinal bleeding, and epigastric pain.
- Regular overdose of VOLTAROL can result into the respiratory depression and coma.
- Overdose of VOLTAROL can even lead to death in severe cases if immediate attention is not given.
If I miss a dose of VOLTAROL?
- No severe side effects were observed if you miss the dosage of VOLTAROL. Some minor side effects that are observed if you discontinue the dosage of VOLTAROL are weakness and tiredness.
- If you miss the dosage of VOLTAROL and if it is the time for the next dosage then doesn’t take that dosage and please continue the VOLTAROL dosage from the next time. Break of 8 hours is necessary between 2 doses of VOLTAROL.
- Please don’t take extra dosage to match up with the missed dosage of VOLTAROL.
- Missing the dosage of VOLTAROL on regular basis when on scheduled dosage can show delay in the pain relief.
- If you are taking VOLTAROL in a single dosage then the chance of missing the dosage doesn’t arises.
Do need to avoid anything while consuming VOLTAROL?
- While driving, operating machinery, or performing other hazardous activities care must be taken. VOLTAROL may cause dizziness or drowsiness. If you experience dizziness or drowsiness due to VOLTAROL, avoid these activities.
- Alcohol increases the VOLTAROL side effects like drowsiness. Delay in the treatment is also observed if you continue the excessive intake of alcohol while on scheduled VOLTAROL dosage. So, please avoid alcohol while taking the scheduled dosage of VOLTAROL.
Precautions while taking VOLTAROL?
Take VOLTAROL if and only if prescribed by the doctor. Take the dosage of VOLTAROL as per the doctor’s instructions.
- FDA has given pregnancy category C rating to VOLTAROL. This means that VOLTAROL may be harmful to an unborn baby. VOLTAROL may also cause serious or fatal side effects in a newborn if the mother uses the medication during pregnancy or labor. Please tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during VOLTAROL treatment.
- VOLTAROL can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing baby. Do not use VOLTAROL medication without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby. VOLTAROL should be discontinued if you want to breast feed the baby.
- Please tell your doctor about the allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances that you have.
- Take the doctor’s advice regarding the intake of VOLTAROL, if you have a history of alcohol abuse, substance abuse, addiction to alcohol.
- Individuals having the bleeding problems should not use VOLTAROL because it may lead to the severe cases of bleeding in stomach and intestines.
- If you have or recently have had any head injury, brain injury or tumor, increased pressure in the brain, or infection of the brain or nervous system avoid the intake of VOLTAROL.
- Discuss with the about the dosage of VOLTAROL, if you have a history of stomach or intestinal problems, asthma or other lung or breathing problems, epilepsy, seizures, or chronic inflammation or ulceration of the bowels.
- Don’t take VOLTAROL, if you have had recent abdominal surgery.
- Don’t take VOLTAROL for the longer duration of than recommended by your doctor because it can cause severe health hazards.
- Individuals suffering from the heart problems, liver problems (e.g., hepatitis), kidney problems, thyroid problems, enlargement of the prostate gland, or urinary problems should consult doctor before starting the dosage of VOLTAROL.
- Patients having seizure should not take VOLTAROL.
- People with the history of alcohol addiction or other narcotics addiction should not take VOLTAROL for the longer duration
- The safety of VOLTAROL is not known in children. So, please avoid giving the VOLTAROL to children.
- Individuals having diabetes should consult doctor regarding the dosage of VOLTAROL.
- Regular check-ups are mandatory for the elderly patients using VOLTAROL
How VOLTAROL is supplied?
VOLTAROL is available in the market in the form of 25 mg, 50 mg, and 75 mg tablets. Please note that color and shape of the VOLTAROL tablets may differ with every manufacturer.
Storage of VOLTAROL:
- Store VOLTAROL at room temperature between 20 to 25 degrees C.
- Keep VOLTAROL away from light and moisture.
- Do not store VOLTAROL in the bathroom and near the kitchen sinks.
- Do not freeze the tablets of VOLTAROL.
- Keep VOLTAROL away from children and pets.
- Keep VOLTAROL in a dust-free environment
Warnings:
- Individuals having the previous history of seizures should not take VOLTAROL.
- People with heart disorders should take VOLTAROL with special care and under the doctor’s supervision.
- Pregnant and breast-feeding women should avoid the intake of VOLTAROL because it may cause premature closure of the ductus arteriosus.
VOLTAROL side effects:
Seek emergency medical attention or contact the doctor immediately and stop the VOLTAROL dosage if you experience any of the following allergic reactions:
- Weak pulse;
- Irregular heartbeats;
- Difficulty in breathing;
- Convulsions;
- Swelling of the lips, tongue, face; or
- Red rashes on the skin followed by peeling and blistering of skin.
These severe side effects of VOLTAROL occur rarely.
Less serious VOLTAROL side effects include:
- Blurred vision
- Nausea, diarrhea, upset stomach;
- Drowsiness, tired feeling;
- Fever;
- Nasal blockage;
- Cough and flu;
- Headache;
- Weakness
- Hallucinations
- Coughing up blood or vomit the blood;
- Tiredness or lightheadedness
- Tenderness in muscles.
The above mentioned VOLTAROL side effects are observed during the initial dosage. These VOLTAROL side effects disappear as the body gets use to the dosage of the drug. Please inform you doctor if any of these VOLTAROL side effects doesn’t go and becomes troublesome.
Drugs that will affect VOLTAROL:
Some drugs may interfere with the working of VOLTAROL and delay its effects. Some drugs can even lead to the increase in the side effects of VOLTAROL. Please avoid the intake of VOLTAROL in combination with following drugs:
- Herbal products that contain feverfew, garlic, ginger, or ginkgo biloba alendronate;
- Cidofovir;
- Cyclosporine;
- Drospirenone; ethinyl estradiol (Yasmin®);
- Entecavir;
- Aspirin and aspirin-like medicines;
- Lithium
Also, inform your doctor if you are taking any minerals, vitamins, or dietary supplements before starting the dosage of VOLTAROL. Don’t start any new medication while on VOLTAROL dosage without consulting your doctor
