VOLTAREN is a medicine used to treat the pain, swelling, stiffness, or inflammation caused by the arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, actinic keratosis, or osteoarthritis. VOLTAREN is the anti-inflammatory analgesic drug belonging to class of medicines called as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). VOLTAREN is also used to relieve the menstrual pain and dysmenorrhea.

What is VOLTAREN?

What is the dosage of VOLTAREN?

  • Depending on the diseases and the intensity of pain, prescribed dosage of VOLTAREN is given.
  • In osteoarthritis prescribed dosage of VOLTAREN is 100-150 mg/day in divided doses. You can take entire dosage of 150 mg of VOLTAREN at once or can be distributed in 3 doses of 50 mg or 2 doses of 75 mg.
  • VOLTAREN prescribed dosage in Rheumatoid Arthritis is 150 to 200 mg twice or thrice in a day. Don’t increase the dosage of VOLTAREN to more than 600 mg in a day because it can cause severe complications to your health. Please discuss with the doctor, if you want to increase the VOLTAREN dosage.
  • VOLTAREN prescribed dosage is 100 to 125 mg once in a day for the patients suffering from Ankylosing Spondylitis. The dosage of 25 mg can be taken extra at the bedtime to see the maximum benefits.
  • Prescribed dosage of VOLTAREN is 300 mg twice in a day for the individuals having primary Dysmenorrhea, menstrual pain, or severe acute Pain. Dosage of VOLTAREN can be increased up to 600 mg in cases of severe acute pain.

  • When on the scheduled dosage of VOLTAREN, alcohol should not be consumed because increase in the side effects like drowsiness is observed.
  • Alcohol when taken with VOLTAREN can lead to increase in the bleeding in the stomach. So, don’t take alcohol while on VOLTAREN scheduled dosage.
  • Avoid driving the vehicle, machinery, or performing any tasks which requires you to be alert soon after taking VOLTAREN because it causes drowsiness and dizziness.

Precautions while taking VOLTAREN?
Medicines should always be taken strictly as directed by your doctor so is with VOLTAREN. It is advisable to consume VOLTAREN medicine as per the doctor’s instructions.

  • VOLTAREN drug may make you dizziness or drowsiness or it may cause blurred vision. So, avoid the tasks that require alertness or clear vision such as driving or using machinery soon after taking VOLTAREN.

How VOLTAREN is supplied?
VOLTAREN is supplied in the form of 25, 50, 75 mg tablets. All the tablets of different strengths have “VOLTAREN” imprinted on it along with its strength.
E.g. “VOLTAREN 25”

  • VOLTAREN 25 mg tablets are yellow in color and biconvex and triangular in shape.
  • VOLTAREN 50 mg tablets are light brown in color and biconvex and triangular in shape.
  • VOLTAREN 75 mg tablets are light pink in color and biconvex and triangular in shape.

Storage of VOLTAREN:

  • Store VOLTAREN tablets at controlled room temperature 20-25°C (68-77°F).
  • Store VOLTAREN tablets in air-tight containers and store it away from direct sunlight and dust.
  • Keep VOLTAREN away from children and pets.


Warnings:

  • Pregnant and breast-feeding women should avoid the intake of VOLTAREN because it may cause premature closure of the ductus arteriosus.
  • Individuals having the previous history of seizures should not take VOLTAREN.
  • People with heart disorders should take VOLTAREN with special care and under the doctor’s supervision.

Side Effects

VOLTAREN side effects:
Please contact your doctor immediately or seek emergency medical attention if you see any of the allergic reactions like swelling of face, lips, throat, or tongue; trouble in respiration; or rashes on skin with bleeding.

VOLTAREN side effects that can cause severe harm to your health are mentioned below. Please continue to take VOLTAREN and visit your doctor once if you experience any of these side effects.

  • VOLTAREN disturbed the rhythm of heart beats in few cases.
  • Hallucination, nausea, vomiting, lack of coordination, agitation, diarrhea, and muscle stiffness were observed infrequently as VOLTAREN side effects.
  • Severe and sudden stomach pain with blood in the stools was observed among the individuals using VOLTAREN.
  • Pain starting with chest pain and then proceeding to arms or shoulders was unusual side effect of VOLTAREN.
  • Coughing up blood or vomit that looks like coffee grounds soon after taking VOLTAREN.
  • Reduction in the urination caused during the scheduled dosage of VOLTAREN.
  • Seizure (convulsions) was observed in as the common and severe side effects of VOLTAREN.
  • Problem with vision, speech, or balance is observed rarely among some users of VOLTAREN.
  • Black, bloody, or tarry stools were observed when on the scheduled dosage of VOLTAREN.

Less severe VOLTAREN side effects are as follows:

  • Ringing in your ears;
  • Tiredness or lightheadedness;
  • Itching of skin with rashes;
  • Bloating, gas; or
  • Tenderness in muscles.

You may note that these less severe side effects of VOLTAREN are temporary and they disappear as the body gets use to the dosage of VOLTAREN. Please tell your doctor if these less severe VOLTAREN side effects doesn’t go and become bothersome. Side effects other than those listed here also may occur.

Drugs that will affect VOLTAREN:
Some drugs may interfere with the working of VOLTAREN and delay its effects. Some drugs can even lead to the increase in the side effects of VOLTAREN. Please avoid the intake of VOLTAREN in combination with following drugs:

  • Herbal products that contain feverfew, garlic, ginger, or ginkgo biloba alendronate;
  • Cidofovir;
  • Cyclosporine;
  • Drospirenone; ethinyl estradiol (Yasmin®);
  • Entecavir;
  • Aspirin and aspirin-like medicines;
  • Lithium;
  • Other anti-inflammatory drugs (such as ibuprofen or prednisone);
  • Pemetrexed;
  • Water pills (diuretics);
  • Medicines for high blood pressure;
  • Medicines that affect platelets;
  • Medicines that treat or prevent blood clots such as warfarin and other “blood thinners”; or
  • Methotrexate;

Also, inform your doctor if you are taking any minerals, vitamins, or dietary supplements before starting the dosage of VOLTAREN. Don’t start any new medication while on VOLTAREN dosage without consulting your doctor.
