What is TRICOR?
Tricor is a drug used to lower cholesterol level in the body. It decreases the bad cholesterol in the blood and increases the good one. It also reduces triclygerides (fats) in the blood. High fat level in the blood increases the risk of clogging of arteries. Tricor lowers elevated blood triglyceride levels by making the liver produce fewer triglycerides and increasing the elimination of triglycerides.

How to take TRICOR doses?

• Take Tricor with a full glass of water
• Tricor should be taken with the meals
• Do not crush or break Tricor tablet as it can be dangerous if goes into your mouth, eyes, nose or on your skin. Handle the broken tablet with much care and dispose it safely.
• If you are taking drugs like cholestyramine (Questran) or colestipol (Colestid), take them one or four to six hours before taking Tricor. Do not take both at the same time.
• If you have disease related to your liver and gallbladder, do not take Tricor.

How TRICOR is beneficial?

• Tricor lowers bad cholesterol (LDL) in the body while increasing the good cholesterol (HDL) when diet and exercise are not enough.

Precautions While Taking TRICOR?

• If you are allergic to Tricor or any other drugs do not take Tricor before consulting your doctor.
• If you experience muscle pain, tenderness or weakness while taking Tricor seeks doctor’s advice immediately.
• Also tell your doctor if you have diabetes, kidney disease, liver disease, gallbladder disease, low thyroid or muscle disorders before taking Tricor (Fenofibrate).
• Tell your doctor what prescription and nonprescription medications you are taking, especially anticoagulants (”blood thinners”) such as warfarin (Coumadin); HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors (cholesterol-lowering agents) such as lovastatin (Mevacor), pravastatin (Pravachol), and simvastatin (Zocor); cholestyramine (Questran); cyclosporine (Sandimmune, Neoral); and vitamins or herbal products.
• Tricor medicine is very sensitive to sun so avoid being in sun for the much time. Else use sunscreen lotion or protective clothing.
• Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding. If you become pregnant while taking Tricor, call your doctor.

What is the Dosage of TRICOR?

• The starting dose of Tricor ranges from 54 to 160 milligrams per day. Your doctor may increase the dose every 4 to 8 weeks if your cholesterol and triglycerides do not improve. The maximum dose of Tricor is 160 milligrams a day.

If I Overdose TRICOR?

• There is no specific information available about the side effects of Tricor if taken an overdose of it. But any medicine taken in excess can have serious consequences. If you think you have an overdose of Tricor immediately seek medical attention.

If I Miss a Dose of TRICOR?

• If you have missed a dose of Tricor take it as soon as you remember it. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the medicine at the next regularly scheduled time. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose unless prescribed by doctor.

Do I Need to Avoid Anything while Consuming TRICOR?

• Do not take alcohol while taking Tricor as it raise triglyceride levels, and may also damage the liver.
• Avoid high cholesterol and high fat diets as they increase the risk of heart and blood vessel disease. Tricor is only part of a total cholesterol-lowering program; you have to follow other things also with it.
