Viagra and Levitra are known for their affects in the treatment of erectile dysfunction. Viagra whose chemical name is Sildenafil has been the most famous among any pill treatment for erectile dysfunction. However, recently there is a new pill that has come and has become quite a competitor for Viagra and that pill is Levitra whose chemical name is Vardenafil. Even though chemically they both are different they are quite similar when it comes to the treatment of erectile dysfunction.

Both Viagra and Levitra have gotten side effects on the human body. Let us look at the side effects of Viagra first. The common side effects of Viagra includes sneezing, headaches, flushing, dyspepsia which is commonly called heart burn, dizziness, palpitations and photophobia which is the excessive sensitivity to light. On the other hand the most serious side effects are heart attack, priapism which is a painful condition where an erection does not stop even after 4 hours, low blood pressure, stroke and some times even sudden death. There have been cases when blindness was caused by Viagra, although it has not yet been proved.

Levitra on the other hand also has side effects too. The common side effects are nausea, abdominal pain, back pain, vision changes, photosensitivity, eye pain, organ swelling, high - blood pressure, palpitations, running nose, rashes and priapism. Some of the serious side effects include heart attack, penile tissue damage and the biggest of all permanent impotency.

As there are dangerous side effects associated with these two big erectile dysfunction drugs, there are other herbal Viagra alternatives available in the market now. The herbal Viagra seems to be with no side effects and thus become even more popular. Among Viagra and Levitra, Viagra is famously used drug due to its lesser side effects. However, both of them should not be taken with any nitrate medication, as this drug interaction that could be caused and might lead to low-blood pressure.

Viagra and Levitra have got side effects however Levitra is not that famous due to its permanent side effects like permanent impotency. So please consult a doctor before you start using any of these two pills for the treatment.
