Nexium is a drug used in the treatment of heartburn or gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). It belongs to the group of drugs known as Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI), which secretes gastric acid. It is also used to cure infections like duodenal ulcers, zollinger-ellison syndrome, helicobacter pylori (h. Pylori) and the healing of erosive esophagitis.

What is NEXIUM?
Nexium is a gastrointestinal drug used to cure gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) or heartburn, which is caused due to the acid production in the stomach. Nexium is also used to treat duodenal ulcers, erosive esophagitis, zollinger-ellison syndrome and other conditions involving excessive stomach acid production. Nexium is also used for other conditions that are not mentioned here.
How to take NEXIUM doses?
- Before every dose of Nexium shake it well
- Every dose of Nexium should be taken with a full glass (8 ounces) of water
- Nexium should be taken at least one hour before a meal.
- Do not chew or crush Nexium tablets, swallow it. Nexium are specially formulated to release slowly in the body.
- If you find difficulty swallowing the Nexium capsules, one tablespoon of applesauce can be added to an empty bowl and the Nexium capsule can be opened, and the pellets inside the capsule carefully emptied onto the applesauce. The Nexium pellets should be mixed with the applesauce and then swallowed immediately.

If I miss a dose of Nexium?

If it is the time of your next dose by the time you remember, skip the missed dose of Nexium and continue your regular dosing of Nexium schedule. Do not double the dose until it is prescribed by doctor.
- Do I need to avoid anything while consuming NEXIUM?
- Avoid acidic beverages and eatables like coffee, acidic fruit and spicy foods in order to reduce acid reflux
- While getting treatment from Nexium avoid items or activities that you know are allergens for you if they make your symptoms worse.
- Avoid exposing yourself to known sources of infection in case Nexium is treating you
- Avoid high fat meals
- Don’t do overeating as it stimulate the stomach to secret more acids for digestion
- Avoid alcohol

- Atrophic gastritis has been noted occasionally in gastric corpus biopsies from patients treated long-term with Nexium.
