What is the dosage of FLAGYL?

- In women, FLAGYL should be taken as 2 grams as the single dosage or in two divided doses given in a one day for Trichomoniasis (one day treatment). The prescribed dosage of FLAGYL is 250 mg per thrice in a day for the seven day treatment of Trichomoniasis.
- For the treatment of intestinsal Amebiasis the dosage of FLAGYL is 750 mg three times in a day for 5 to 10 days.
- For Anaerobic Bacterial Infections the dosage of FLAGYL is 500 mg for every 6 hours in a day.
- The dosage of FLAGYL is decided on the basis of general health status of the individual, severity of the bacterial infection, other medicines you are taking, and side effects after the initial dosage.
- If you want to increase the dosage of FLAGYL, please take the doctor’s advice.
- Consume each dose of FLAGYL with a full glass of water.
- Avoid the intake of FLAGYL for the more duration than prescribed by your doctor.

Do need to avoid anything while consuming FLAGYL?
- When taking FLAGYL avoid driving, operating machinery, or performing other hazardous activities. FLAGYL may cause dizziness or drowsiness.
- If you experience dizziness or drowsiness due to FLAGYL, avoid these activities.
- Avoid the intake of alcohol while taking FLAGYL because it can increase the side effects like drowsiness and dizziness.
- Please avoid the intake of alcohol at least for the next 3 days after completing the scheduled dosage of FLAGYL because it may lead to nausea, vomiting, redness of skin, and fast heartbeats.
Precautions while taking FLAGYL?
Note: Breast-feeding women should avoid FLAGYL, because FLAGYL passes through breast milk from mother to child and affects a nursing infant. Sometimes side effects can be severe so nursing mothers should note take FLAGYL. Doctor should decide whether mother should continue the breast feeding or she should take the dosage of FLAGYL. Please remember that breast feeding and dosage of FLAGYL can not be continued together.

Drugs that will affect FLAGYL:
Some drugs may decrease the effects of FLAGYL and prevent it from properly treating your infection are mentioned below:
- seizure medication such as phenytoin (Dilantin) or phenobarbital (Luminal, Solfoton);
- lithium (Lithobid, Eskalith, others); or
- a blood thinner such as warfarin (Coumadin);
- disulfiram (Antabuse);
- cimetidine (Tagamet)
- Please avoid the intake of any other antibiotics like erythromycin or penicillin in combination with FLAGYL because it may lead to severe side effects.
- Please mention to the doctor about any of the over-the-counter or prescription medicines before taking FLAGYL. Avoid starting any new medicines while you are on the scheduled dosage of FLAGYL.
