Erectile Dysfunction: a common man’s problem

ED is common

For many men, of all ages, backgrounds and races, the future of their sex lives looks bleak.  Why?  Because they suffer with a disorder known as erectile dysfunction, or impotence.

Sexual health is of course an important part in maintaining a healthy sex life, and an unhealthy sex life can put strain on you and your partner as well as the relationship you share.  Erectile dysfunction is arguably one of the worst sexual health issues to suffer with on a psychological level.  Most men will occasionally have difficulty maintaining an erection it is when, however, the problem occurs frequently that it can become a real problem.

It goes without saying that the inability to maintain an erection hampers sexual activity.  The reasons for this are various, both psychological (i.e. anxiety, fatigue) and physiological (i.e. diabetes, high blood pressure).

What is important is coping with the problem in a mature and realistic way.

The first step in overcoming the disorder is contacting your doctor, or a sexual dysfunction specialist and arranging a consultation.  Before you meet with your doctor create a list of questions, doctors are aware of the sensitivity of the issue and will be empathetic to any anxiety you may be feeling, you will not be the first patient they have seen with this problem and you won’t be the last.

Don’t put visiting your doctor off for another day.  Treatment for erectile dysfunction is easily available, you are only depriving yourself of this treatment if you put off seeking it.  Remember, erectile dysfunction is not a disease, it is a symptom, like sneezing or headaches, and the problem is a larger one that can more than likely be fixed.

You are likely feeling inadequate, but as mentioned above the problem is not your penis itself the problem is likely an issue of blood flow, throughout the body. Talking to your partner about the problem openly can also be helpful.  They will share your goals and the burden
