Vardenafil (Generic Levitra)

Vardenafil (Generic Levitra)

Vardenafil (Generic Levitra) is a PDE5 drug that is used to treat erectile dysfunction (impotence). Studies show that it can allow a man who struggles to maintain an erection overcome this problem following sexual stimulation.  While the name vardenafil may be unfamiliar to you, Levitra, vardenafil’s brand name is likely not.

The marketing right to vardenafil (Levitra) are owned by a German chemical and pharmaceutical company named Bayer in partnership with GlaxoSmithKline plc (GSK) based in the UK, though in some countries Bayer own sole rights to the product and in others GSK sell the product under a different trade name.

A phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitor (PDE5), is a compound that is used in order to prevent the degrading effects of phosphodiesterase type 5 on cyclic GMP (cGMP) in smooth muscle cells which line blood vessels which supply the penis, consequentially blood flow to the penis increases causing an erection.  Because of this, drugs in this category such as Viagra, Levitra and Cialis are commonly used to treat erectile dysfunction.  Similar effects in other parts of the body mean these drugs are sometimes used to help treat high blood pressure.

PDE 5 inhibitors have mostly the same effect, what differs in each of these brands however is their effectiveness, length of time for which they are effective and some of the side effects tend to be different.  For instance, the visible affects of vardenafil wear off faster than sildenafil (Viagra) or Tadalafil (Cialis).

Side effects common to all PDE5 inhibitors include headaches, which occur in more than 10% of users following usage of the tablet. Other common side effects are, dizziness, flushing, a runny nose, dyspepsia or rhinitis.  Moreover fairly recently it was announced that sudden hearing loss may also be linked with this class of drug.  Scientists believe the severeness and frequency of these adverse affects is dependent up on the dosage take.  Vardenafil-specific side effects may include some nausea.

There are more serious side effects associated with the drug such as abdominal and eye pain, hypertension and tachycardia.

Vardenafil is taken in far smaller doses than viagra (recommended no more than once per day) tablets start at 2.5 mg doses and range up to 20mg in the form of round orange tablets.
I’m sure you would agree that before taking any drug of this nature it is important to talk about your decision, both with a partner and a medical professional who is able to give you appropriate advise.
